چکیده

Abstract Background and aim Obesity is associated with an increase in different adipose depots. The anatomic distribution of internal confers risks. Recently, significant interest has emerged the expansion epicardial tissue (EAT) as a mediator adverse cardiovascular events. Often, post-mortem examination remains best method investigating morphological changes health disease. This study aimed to develop simple, reproducible, non-invasive protocol for measurement adiposity using computed tomography (PMCT). Patients methods 101 consecutive subjects underwent non-contrast scans. Measurements were performed open-source software 3D Slicer by non-expert researcher. An expert radiologist cardiologist verified abdominal cardiac sites adiposity, respectively. We measure total EAT, sub-depots extra-pericardial adipose, visceral subcutaneous suprasternal adipose. Results found excellent reproducibility our measures anterior right atrial tissue, intraclass correlations between 0.82 0.99 each measure. Due lack suitable anatomical boundaries, other including interventricular groove, not reproducible. Conclusions Quantification EAT are readily reproducible on CT. They can be reliably measured researchers small amount training, therefore used investigate

Post-mortem computed tomography in adults

There has been increasing interest in recent years in a new application of cross-sectional imaging, that of investigation of cause of death. A perceived public distaste for invasive autopsy, fuelled in part by the organ retention scandals of the late 1990s, coupled with disquiet about the fitness-for-practice of the coronial system, has led to a search for a less invasive alternative. A post-mo...

In vivo and post-mortem detection of amyloid plaques with a non-specific gadolinium contrast agent

INTRODUCTION Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common type of neurodegenerative disease, but no cure has yet been found. Amyloid deposits, one of the characteristic lesions, constitute the main target for diagnostics and therapeutics and have previously been identified in mouse models using magnetic resonance (MR) microscopy. These plaques typically appear as hypointense spots on T2-weighted...

Human brown adipose tissue depots automatically segmented by positron emission tomography/computed tomography and registered magnetic resonance images.

Reliably differentiating brown adipose tissue (BAT) from other tissues using a non-invasive imaging method is an important step toward studying BAT in humans. Detecting BAT is typically confirmed by the uptake of the injected radioactive tracer 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) into adipose tissue depots, as measured by positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET-CT) scans after exposi...

Coronary endothelial dysfunction and non-contrast multidetector computed tomography.

Previous authors have evaluated endothelial dysfunction after intracoronary infusion of acetylcholine by Doppler flow wire (coronary blood flow) or invasive coronary angiography (coronary artery vasodilation).4–6 More recent reports have shown that non-invasive assessment of myocardial blood flow (MBF) by positron emission tomography (PET) can effectively evaluate coronary endothelial dysfuncti...
